Narcissistic Abuse recovery

Sharon Nicholson, online trauma therapist UK

Brainspotting - anxiety, trauma, narcissistic abuse

You Feel It In Your Body Every Single Day

You know something was wrong. You're just not always sure you're allowed to say so.

Narcissistic abuse rarely announces itself.

It arrives slowly. A gradual erosion of your confidence. A slow rewriting of what you thought was real. A relationship that, looking back, required you to become smaller and smaller just to keep the peace.

And because it doesn't always leave visible marks, it can be the hardest kind of harm to name, and the hardest to trust yourself about.

You might still be wondering whether it counts. Whether it was really that bad. Whether you're remembering it right.

That doubt is part of what narcissistic abuse does.

It doesn't mean you're wrong.

What It Can Leave Behind

A version of you that doesn't quite feel like you.

You might find yourself second-guessing decisions you would once have made without thinking.

Editing what you say before you say it.

Feeling responsible for other people's emotions in a way that quietly exhausts you.

You might carry a shame that arrived inside the relationship and stayed long after it ended, as though what happened reflects something about you, rather than something that was done to you.

You might struggle to trust your own instincts. To know what you actually feel, separate from what you were told to feel.

You might look perfectly capable from the outside while something essential is missing on the inside.

You were not born not enough.

That belief was planted, and it can be gently, carefully released.

Why Insight Alone Rarely Sets You Free

Understanding what happened is important. But it's rarely enough.

Because narcissistic abuse doesn't only live in the mind, it lives in the nervous system.

In the hypervigilance, the people-pleasing, the bracing that your body learned as survival.

Patterns that can remain long after the relationship has ended, long after you know, intellectually, that you're safe.

That's where the work needs to go. And that's what we do together.

Using Brainspotting and parts-informed therapy, we work at the level where this actually lives: in the body, in the parts of you that adapted faithfully to a relationship that required you to be less than you are.

Not to relive it. To release it.

So that your thoughts, feelings, and choices begin to feel like yours again.

So that you can trust yourself, quietly, steadily, from the inside out.

So that the version of you that existed before, or the version you have always sensed you could be, begins to find her way back.

A note on where I work best with this:

The work I do in this area is recovery-focused, for those who have left a narcissistic or emotionally harmful relationship, or who are clearly in the process of leaving.

If you are still inside the relationship and not yet at the point of leaving, ongoing support from a therapist who specialises in safety planning may be the right first step. I am happy to talk this through with you on a clarity call.

This Is The Right Place If

You suspect, or know, that what you experienced was narcissistic abuse, the gaslighting, the confusion, the gradual erosion of who you are.

You have left and you are ready to begin the work of coming back to yourself.

You've done the reading, you understand it intellectually, but you're still stuck in the same patterns.

You don't fully trust your own perception, your instincts, or your sense of what's real.

You want to stop just surviving it, and start returning to your luminous self.

You don't need certainty about what happened. You don't need the perfect words.

If something here resonates — your enquiry is welcome, exactly as you are.
