Brainspotting - anxiety, trauma, narcissistic abuse

What is brainspotting?

It’s difficult to put Brainspotting into words because so much of it happens beneath conscious awareness, and is felt more than thought. It can be helpful to think of it as opening a door to the deeper parts of your brain, where emotions, memories, and reactions are held.

Our eyes are connected not just to vision but also to the limbic system, which helps process emotions and memories. Sometimes, overwhelming experiences are not fully processed, and the brain and body continue to carry the residual feelings and bodily tension - often described as being “stuck.”

By gently guiding your gaze to specific points in your visual field, that naturally correspond to these underlying experiences, Brainspotting supports the brain and nervous system in naturally moving towards processing and integration of these memories.

Bilateral music can also be added to support your processing in sessions.

Whilst everyone's experience of Brainspotting will be unique to them, people often notice a range  of experiences in a session; shifts in bodily sensations, emotions coming into awareness, insights, or a sense of release and relief.

This body-mind approach can help with everyday challenges like stress, anxiety, or lingering sadness - often supporting processing in ways that talking alone may not.

" Traumatic events are almost impossible to put into words"

— Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk

This is for you if:

  • You’ve talked things through but still feel anxious, overwhelmed or disconnected, stuck in the same patterns of self-doubt, self-criticism, perfectionism and people-pleasing

  • You sense that you're holding tension, emotion, or exhaustion in your body, and you’re ready to let it go

  • You want to heal, not just manage symptoms

  • You want therapy that goes deeper than traditional talk therapy and you are open to exploring your body-mind connection

  • You're ready to feel calm, connected and back in your body - connected to who you truly are.

You don’t need the perfect words to begin healing.

Whether through weekly/fortnightly sessions or an intensive format, this therapy can create profound shifts, bringing relief, clarity, and a sense of freedom.

Everyone's experience of Brainspotting will be unique to them and so results will vary for each individual. As with other forms of therapy, individuals may experience heightened emotions at times, and processing will continue after each session. If you choose to listen to bilateral music during or after sessions, please check with your medical provider if this could be an issue with any medical conditions you have.

Sessions are not suitable for individuals experiencing acute distress as I do not offer a crisis service.
